Ministries of Finance and Justice publish Ordinance No. 164/2022, of 23 June

On 23 June, Ordinance 164/2022 was published in the Portuguese Official Journal.

This diploma is part of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, creating the National Anti-Corruption Mechanism (MENAC) – an administrative and financially independent entity, with legal personality, whose duties are related to ensuring the effectiveness of policies to prevent corruption, in particular transparency and integrity in public action.

The definitive establishment of this entity will depend on the publication of a new ordinance by the members of the Government responsible for the areas of Finance and Public Administration, or by a joint order of the Ministries of Finance and Interior, which will set the technical and administrative support staff map of the MENAC.

Until then, MENAC will operate with the support of the General-Secretariats of the Ministries of Finance and Justice. This support is intended to cover the needs that MENAC may have, both in terms of personnel and budget allocation, operating in premises allocated to the Ministry of Justice.
